2 Hour Delay MCPS 1.10.14

Anonymous
Dumb question, forgive me. I have a kindergardener and it's my first experience with a 2 hour delay. Our school normally starts at 8:50. So now my child doesn't have to be there until 10:50? Or is it 10:30? The school website doesn't say and the mcps site only says two hour delay. Thanks!

10:50.. 8:50 + 2 hours. YOu can verify with the school. They are likely there.

I am a little confused about the safety issue, but I am also just sitting in my house looking out windows. Can someone help explain?

I am this poster. Thanks for all the descriptions. My wife just got back from walking the dog and she said she slipped when our exuberant and leashed pet tried to chase something. I generally don't second guess MCPS on weather deisions (I have other criticisms), I was more curious because it looks ok from my warm living room. I wanted to hear what people were experiencing. Ice is probably more dangerous than snow, so it sounds like they made the right call. I hope the morning goes well.

Even with the temps above freezing, the rain will freeze on the ground (which is colder than air temp right now). Untreated side streets were still slippery. Main roads seemed ok but I didn't leave the house until 8:30AM. MCPS made the right call today. As I drove past Wootton HS, I saw many kids shuffling on the icy sidewalks.

same poster here - just looked at the news and there were a ton of accidents this morning all over. It was the right call.

Great call by MCPS. I live in upper Montgomery County and left for work at 8:15. The street and sidewalks were quite icy. My high schoolers had to leave before 9 to walk to school, and although it was still a bit icy then, although much better than it would have been at normal walking time, which is before 7 a.m.
