Where do you buy your clothes?

For stylish and trendy options, try South Moon Under in Clarendon. They have great sales and I've found some adorable daytime and evening tops to pair with jeans or cords.
Also, Filene's in Tysons' has great designer jeans at really low prices. $150-200 jeans for $50-75.

One suggestion is when you find a pair of jeans that you love have them hemmed at two lengths, one for ballet flats and one for heels. It makes shopping so much easier!

Consignment shops! I have found so many GREAT items, at such reasonable prices. It allows you to go outside your comfort zone a little bit, because you're not spending so much money. You really have to try a few consignment shops to find one or two that fit your style. Maybe post a new thread with recommendations for consignment shops with more upscale items. There's a great one in my neck of the woods -- Honeysuckle, in Arnold, MD.

I usually shop my clothes online and my favorite websites are too many to list out here but few of them are:
jcrew.com
abercrombie.com
hollister.com
bananarepublic.com
bluefly.com

Occasionally, I love to shop on eBay and iStorez for online shopping deals. Shopping online is the ultimate convenience for me.

Nordstrom, Nieman Marcus only when they have huge sales, Anthropologie, and BLUEFLY.COM.

I love Theory at the Outlet mall in Leesburg. A bit pricey, but you are guaranteed to have a "hip" yet classic look.

I'm in my 40s, and I shop at Nordstrom, TJMaxx, Walmart, consignment and thrift shops and church sales. I have a huge wardrobe, and don't need much these days -- a few cute things for going out, exercise stuff and normal mom garb. I'm a sahm, so no need for work clothes. If I were working I'd still shop at TJMaxx and Nordstrom for work clothes, but I'd add Talbot's, Ann Taylor and Nieman Marcus (on sale). I wear classic clothes with a bit of an edge.

OP, may I suggest calling Nordstrom and asking for an afternoon with a personal shopper? It is free and painless and you can maybe get outside the box with your clothing. Certainly, you do not need to start going crazy, but someone else's eye may be just what you need to make sure you getting not just clothes you like, but clothes that flatter and fit you well!

Ginger in Bethesda Row. It's one of those stores where I love everything they have--not old, not too young, but totally stylish.

I just got an email from them about an event they are doing on Thursday night from 6-8--it's a book signing, but they're doing 25% off all of their new stuff and 50% off all their fall and winter as well.

Ann Taylor Loft is matronly? That's news to me. Lots of my friends, who are slender and not at all matronly, shop there and their clothes are adorable.

While BR and J.Crew are great, I find that many of their clothes are not cut for realistic shapes. If you have any hips or boobs, forget it. I'm not large but I have a hard time finding their clothes.

But, you know what, OP, you have to look around and find the types of clothes that look best on your frame. Clothes are cut and sized differently at different stores. Maybe the personal shopper idea would be a good one for you?

I am a big fan of Filene's. I adore J Crew. I like Boden, but the fit is sometimes funny which is a pain since its all mail order. Nordstrom's is good. Lord & Taylor's has great sales.
