| Hearst Elementary is a Santa loving, menorah displaying, kinara appreciating school! If you want to get in the holiday spirit feel free to stop by or join us for Christmas carols at the local nursing home on Friday! |
| I think the whole idea of ignoring all cultural traditions instead of learning about all of them is pretty myopic. How is it being respectful of diversity to ignore it? Is it the end if the world- no. Is it a missed opportunity to improve a kid's cultural competence - yes. |
| Well too my surprise the holiday parties are all happening this week at the schools that I had doubt. They are going to be quite festive and elaborate, thanks to a corporate sponsor who's the Santa. It is the Holiday Season and someone is willing to make a child whole. Here's another tidbit...the professional football players who are in the NFL and are former DCPS graduates are "Secret Santas" at their high-school alma-maters. Jingle those bells you flipping troll (14:05). If you were a reindeer you probably would be "Prancer." |
Ignoring all cultural traditions? No, it's observing the law against government sponsored religion. |
| No problem with doing Christmas unless that's the only thing they do. It's all or nothing. If you are going to honor the Christmas holiday then you should give the others equal billing. |
| Our family traditionally slaughters a lamb in front of the children when they turn seven years old. How would that go over in school? |
| If White Santa does the slaughtering - I'm cool. |
14:05 is the troll? What the hell is the "Prancer" insinuation? I'm so happy to hear your children will be enjoying a corporately-sponsored NFL-attended festivity, it's great to learn that someone's priorities are all in the right places during this time of year. A true relief. |
| Our school is pretty heavy on the Christmas decorations and celebrations, and even has a Santa visit for the little kids. I am virtually sure that they also address Hanukkah and Kwanzaa, but the emphasis that I see is on Christmas. No issues with me or anyone I've spoken to. |
Corporations are people! |
| Word salad strikes again. |
Corporations are Santa! |
| At one school not too many decorations celebrating the holidays. They have used it as fundraising opt by selling decorations and holiday items. Happy Holidays. |
| Huh? |
|
All, Happy Solstice! |
