Flying to Europe in the winter - sticker shock

Yes OP. Taxes and security fees have really added to the price of tickets. And, then the other day, Congress said it was planning on doubling security TSA fees to be able to deal with the budget crisis. We've looked at all of the angles too. I've signed up for all of the travel websites and come in to work 30 minutes early to read my emails. You've already found the Istanbul deals plus someone else mentioned Iceland deals. Those are the only ones I've seen this winter. All I can say is maybe sign up for credit card deals to get the 40,000 miles deals for you, your husband, and your child (if they're old enough).

OP again. thanks for all the answers, things have really changed in the past few years. I looked ingo going to Dublin and take Ryan air, but with all the fees attached is not more convenient, and if then we need to stay in Dublin because we cannot risk missing the flight to the US is Ryan air is canceled or delayed (and this happens). I just found today a "deal" with SAS through Copenaghen, which is still $2700 for three tickets. I signed up with Travelzoo (in the past we got a great deal with BA on a summer flight with a 24 hr sale there) and will keep looking, but I this point we may just go in the summer (on the bright side, now I do not feel that bad anymore about shelling out $1300 per ticket in July, if these are the prices in February
