Did your family travel to spend Christmas/Thanksgiving with relatives?

Growing up: We drove one hour to holiday lunch at gma c, then drove back an hour to holiday dinner at gma h.
Only when the gma could no longer host did it rotate amongst siblings.
Nowadays: thanksgiving with local friends. Fly to Xmas.

We always woke up at home on Christmas morning but would often go to my grandmother's later in the day. My parents were divorced so I'd go see my dad who lived with my other grandmother later in the day too. My grandma hosted a big dinner w/ all the cousins and aunt and uncles. It was a big crazy day but pretty fun.

I think we usually had T-giving at home though I don't remember one way or the other if we had it at my grandma's some years.

We lived in my mother's hometown. For most of the holidays, we did our thing at home on Christmas morning, then drove the 5 minutes to my grandmother's, where chaos ensued. Including my mother, there were 6 children in her family, who were usually always there, plus all of their kids (my cousins). Then there were my grandparents' siblings, etc. It was awesome.

My parents weren't together and my dad lived in New England, so there were a couple of Christmases that I flew there to spend the holiday with his family.

I forgot to answer the second question. My husband and I (no kids) alternate traveling and staying home. We have 4 sets of parents to visit, only one of which lives locally, so it takes us a few years to "make the rounds" one time.

We had Thanksgiving at our house; my grandparents and aunt would come to us.

We traveled to my other grandparents's house for Christmas. My parents aren't Christian, so being at our own house for Christmas was not an important thing.

We usually stay home for Thanksgiving, though we sometimes visit myin-laws or my grandfather. It's usually just our little family with maybe my sister or a stray cousin. (My parents spend Thanksgiving with my grandfather, and my in-laws don't really travel. If we want to see them, we go there)

For Christmas, we alternate between going to my parents' house and my in-laws' house.

We stayed home or traveled to somewhere fun. I grew up overseas though, so we weren't close to extended family. We still did big Tgiving dinners, just with family friends, not relatives.

Now, we see extended family at other times during the year (camping trips, anniversaries or bdays) and go to my parents' for Tgiving since they're only 30min away. My siblings are local as well.

For Xmas, we travel to FL bc my parents have a place there. I have a 5yo and he loves going to the beach every year in the winter.

DH also grew up overseas and his family is scattered, so they pick a random spot and spend the week after Xmas together. Everyone does their own thing for Tgiving. Growing up, he sometimes visited relatives, sometimes stayed home.
