K was 25 (27 by end of year) with a paraeducator (aide) for 1 hour/day

1st was 26
2nd was 28
3rd was 29 and 33 in Math
4th was 30 and 32 in Math
5th was 29 and 31 in Math

I wish she would have left for private in 3rd. Her 1st grade teacher and 2nd grade math teacher were fabulous. Her K, 3rd were mediocre. 2nd, 3rd math, and all of 4/5th were awful.

DD went to private at 6th grade and had 15-18 kids in each section. What a difference. So worth the cost.

My other DD is in 1st now public with 26 in class, no aide. She is moving to private in 3rd.

Each of the 4 Kindergarten classes in DS's school has 20 kids.

My DD's K last year had 24. Plus there were 6 children who came in for specials and parties (with their para-educator). My daughter did just fine last year.

My DS (in a local private) had 8. He could not have handled a large class with only 1 teacher though.

The MoCo school we are zoned to has between 25-28 for K depending on the year. This is with one teacher and one aide who is shared by several classrooms. We took a close look but opted for private and have no regrets.

My DS had 13 kids with 2 teachers in private K. Then went to public Gr 1 with 20 + kids. He had an easier time socially in the bigger class and was happier over all. He certainly had to be more independant but that was a learning experience too.

Here's a link showing the explanation and the list of the focus schools in MCPS. The ones in red are the focus schools.

That list is four years old.

This is the current list of Title 1 schools: http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/titleone/

Ours have 19-22 this year, but last year were at 25-27. It totally depends on how many kids they have to accommodate.
