If you're looking for rigorous, look at Congressional in Falls Church. We transferred our child there from the FCPS AAP program and she is much more challenged at Congressional than s
he ever was at the AAP center. The expectations are high and the teachers are amazing. |
| I am actually quite bothered by 14:51. I am also an educator (university level), and from my perspective, academic success is not solely a function of the academic knowledge pushed into the child's head before college. Content is easy to acquire, if the student has the right learning habits. Langley is a K-8 school that teaches young children good learning habits. The really rigorous content doesn't come until high school. If the child is smart and has good learning habits (including a love for learning which Langley does a great job building), they will absorb the HS content like a sponge. Granted, I may be a bit biased as a Langley parent myself... but I am also an educator that has seen a lot of students who can repeat content when asked, but don't really understand it. |
| Langley = Potomac School rejects |

There you are! Was wondering when the Langley basher would show up. I would absolutely love to put a face to the person who is hiding behind a computer screen, calling 5 year olds "rejects". I have to know what would make a person write something so cruel and pointless? Fwiw, DS was accepted at both and we chose Langley. We have a friend who is a Potomac legacy but his child will be headed to Langley for K. A k-12 isn't for every kid. I'm thrilled to be at Langley and our children are thriving. |
| One thing I appreciate about Langley the emphasis on high school placement and helping parents find the right fit for the right child. It seems to me the emphasis at Potomac is retention (though I Know kids are counseled out on an exception basis.) |

How is that possible when Langley has a preschool and Pre-k option and Potomac does not? By default, anybody who wants to start private prior to K is not looking at Potomac as an option but to other schools like SSSA, Langley, St. Pats etc. |
At least Langley doesn't have a history of convicted child molester(s) as teacher(s) working for the school as the Potomac School has ... http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/crime/potomac-school-investigation-uncovers-more-alleged-abuse/2014/06/30/57abfa0e-0072-11e4-8fd0-3a663dfa68ac_story.html http://www.thedailybeast.com/witw/articles/2013/11...orace-mann-on-the-potomac.html http://m.washingtonpost.com/local/crime/for-women-...3-b6f8-3782ff6cb769_story.html |
That bubble popped. |
Different Langley. |
Different Langley? |
| PP is taking about the guy from Potomac, not Langley. |
| Very tough. |

I agree with the educator who stands up for not pressuring young children to learn content as a means of achieving
Academic rigor. In stilling a love of learning, positive self image,And broadly exposing young students to cultural enrichment is far more important in the long run than learning multiplication in K. We raised our kids this way and our daughters are flowing this approach with our grandchildren, the oldest of whom is graduating from high school This Year. All of them are enthusiastic learner a, get good grades and are social leaders. Some transferred to Big 3 schools when they were old enough to cope with the academic pressures. Pushing your child to do rote academicstoo early will back fire and will not give them an edge in high school. It will only diminish there one and only childhood |
