Dinner for six adults and six kids.

for the kids, I'd buy a bag of frozen chicken tenders or chicken nuggets. You can get the healthier brands with the hormone free chicken and bake instead of fry. Put in the oven on a metal tray. Add a bowl of applesauce. do a veggie they'll eat like peas with some butter. get rolls, kids like those.

I would do a pasta dish and one more main dish like chicken, plus bread, salad and a simple dessert (cookies...cupcakes...whatever) Done!

Also McD nuggets are 20 for $5 this week.. know, I know, but cheap and easy if needed

I usually do an app for the adults and pigs in a blanket for kids.

Jambalaya is a good one pot dish. Also, King Ranch Casserole is always a hit - Http://allrecipes.com/recipe/king-ranch-chicken-casserole-i/

Both can be made before guests arrive. i usually just serve with a salad.

Sorry, I meant to add this link for King Ranch. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/king-ranch-chicken-casserole-i/. I make this like lasagne, with layers. I keep corn tortilla whole

I would add a plain pasta for the kids. Lots of young kids do not eat casserole type foods. And have one cut up fruit, cheese, and other simple food for picky eaters.

+1. I would make a basic tomato-based pasta dish and a homemade mac-and-cheese. I make this periodically for buffet dinners at my place and I have to make a huge recipe because both kids and adults love homemade mac-n-cheese. You can have sauteed broccoli and sausage on the side and those who want can add it to the mac-n-cheese, and those who don't can leave it off.

I would do - make your own tacos or burrittos OR

Set out a buffet with a wide variety of things - kaiser rolls and deli meats. Chicken wings. throw some frozen meatballs and spaghetti sauce in the slow cooker all day.

Add fruit and veggies, chips and dips and call it good.
