Here's the thing OP. Your husband's best friend offered him his seat at the table. He didn't say "I'll be out of the country so my wife and I can't make it. Why don't you and your wife take our seats?" No. He implied that he only had one seat at the table to begin with. Your husband appears smart enough to know not to say to the uncle "hey, can I bring my wife too?!?" He's low man on the totem pole. He has to play beyond the norms of polite in order to get up in the ranks.

Exactly. The sponsor gets 10 seats but the other 9 may already be filled. I would not assume two seats were open - IME, usually the seats are filled or donated back to the organization since the guest list is due several days before the event.

I'm hoping you just vented here and not to your DH. If you did get annoyed at him and made it known, you really need to work on learning to control your emotions. That type of stuff will kill marriages.

It's a fact of life OP that men can sometimes be so clueless. And this is a perfect example of just that.

It doesn't sound like he was trying to exclude you as you said, so I would just be annoyed, but let it go now.

I am not sure in this scenario it is the man being clueless. He was offered one seat at a gala for business and he took it. How does that make him clueless? His wife (OP) made as many if not more assumptions than he did.

Thanks ladies OP here. I truly wanted to vent but have enough respect for him not to do it to anyone we know. I've been in DC for about a year now & have spent all the time studying ( and caring for our dc). Just wanted to do something different for a change, miss all our friends & family from back home and nyc. thanks again & hope all the sweet people (who didn't give asinine responses) have a great day.
