Demoted employee threatened to blow DH's head off (his boss). Mgt did NOTHING about it.

The police cannot do anything. Your husband should call his company's security department. Their response will be much different from HR's.

A few years ago my dad's coworker made a threat jokingly about hurting a coworker. The person who made the threat was instantly fired and the company provided security at my dad's office for a few weeks until the situation cooled down and they were able to investigate the threat. There are plenty of actions his company should be immediately taking. The first one now is to remove the incompetent HR person

100 hours? What's the company? TASC? They had that issue several times...

I would have hidden my DH's keys until this is sorted out.

I don't understand why this is HRs problem. You have the employees name. File a police report. Period. You don't need to have an address to do that.

Agree that HR should be more responsive here, but again, police can come to the office directly to meet whomever this is.

I work for a security company that advises companies about issues like this. I hope something low key happens to you all, like the employee shows up at your house. You could settle out of court for MILLIONS.

That's a dark joke, but I'm not kidding about the litigious aspect of this. Start taking copious notes now.

Also order Gavin debekers book Gift of Fear. It'll be insightful for this situation.

Well, I followed up with the police yesterday and nothing had been done. They said the officer assigned to the case on Saturday morning was out till Tuesday, and that another officer could be dispatched if I had the address, but of course, I have an empty bag and DH is at that HR person's mercy. he called her 5 times yesterday. I called her at 9:30AM and left a message today. Still, NOTHING.

I'm sorry, I mean I called the police yesterday at NIGHT and nothing had been done, and the original officer is out till WEDNESDAY not tuesday. [/quote

Again, why is everyone BUT your husband calling the police?

It's also clear to me why this employee was promptly fired after making this threat.

a friend of mine, who was a manager, was shot and killed at work (along with another colleague) by a disgruntled subordinate in 1999. please do not take this lightly and call the police yourself. threatening to kill somebody does not warrant you or your DH sitting around and waiting for somebody else to take care of the situation.

No...100 days. 800 hours.

Bear in mind, there are legitimate reasons for missing that much work. I have missed about 125 days of work since May 2012. And if the company took any action, they would be on the losing end of legal action. (I am battling cancer...they know this). But, without a physical issue, that is excessive.

Why does it seem like OP is more invested in this than her DH?

OP- your DH needs to handle this issue...you should not be calling HR and his office on his behalf.

Bears in mind are quite painful. That would be a good reason for missing that much work. More likely though, it was Beers in mind.

(PP here...making fun of myself)

Why not? It is a death threat. Police absolutely do investigate death threats.

Because DH recognizes its probably not a meaningful threat and OP is an emotional person who is freaking.
