I'm the doula who posted earlier. I think you're right that if it's 20 minutes to HC and 30 minutes to SG, then that difference is negligible. I don't think it is nonchalant or naive I think it's worth a bit of traveling to get the situation you want.

All of what you're sharing is giving me a lot to think about, but also confirming hunches. I'll be sure to ask direct and important questions during this consult with Dr. Berger-Weiss - otherwise it's a copay for nothing! I don't want to prejudge...but I have a feeling it's not going to be the place for me. I just can't imagine being confined to back labour the entire time...I also love water and know being able to use tubs/showers would help me, and there's none of that at Holy Cross, as lovely as it is. By the way, Holy Cross is 20 mins from home and Shady Grove Adventist is 30 mins. I'm kind of feeling like if 20 mins is ok, 30 is also ok, especially for a first-timer. Of course, that's the kind of nonchalant, naive crap that people say before they're in the situation. Still. I feel like I have to travel to get the situation I want. There are absolutely hospitals much closer (we live about 7 minutes from the Laurel hospital) but...yeah. I don't think so, though I feel snotty saying so.
