natural birth supportive ob at holy cross?

OP here. All, I am really overwhelmed and appreciative of the time you all took to give me this great advice. Thank you so much. All of what you're sharing is giving me a lot to think about, but also confirming hunches. I'll be sure to ask direct and important questions during this consult with Dr. Berger-Weiss - otherwise it's a copay for nothing! I don't want to prejudge...but I have a feeling it's not going to be the place for me. I just can't imagine being confined to back labour the entire time...I also love water and know being able to use tubs/showers would help me, and there's none of that at Holy Cross, as lovely as it is. By the way, Holy Cross is 20 mins from home and Shady Grove Adventist is 30 mins. I'm kind of feeling like if 20 mins is ok, 30 is also ok, especially for a first-timer. Of course, that's the kind of nonchalant, naive crap that people say before they're in the situation. Still. I feel like I have to travel to get the situation I want. There are absolutely hospitals much closer (we live about 7 minutes from the Laurel hospital) but...yeah. I don't think so, though I feel snotty saying so.

I'm the doula who posted earlier. I think you're right that if it's 20 minutes to HC and 30 minutes to SG, then that difference is negligible. I don't think it is nonchalant or naive I think it's worth a bit of traveling to get the situation you want.

(OP again). I'm glad you agree! I know it won't be pleasant - I can see 30 minutes of screaming my way down the ICC - but it's 10 minutes of life for a potentially completely different birth experience.

OP, 10:15 here. I was very nervous about the distance to GW, but my doula seemed to think it was not a big deal at all. I'd say 30 minutes to Shady Grove is perfectly safe.

One note on doulas and CWC - my original CWC practice (or at least the particular OB I asked) only liked working with By Your Side doulas from Holy Cross. My speculation on that is that the BYS doulas may have a greater level of comfort with the (interventionist) practices at Holy Cross.
