If your kids come to my house with their UNICEF box, I will be depositing candy in it.

Better stock up on necco wafers, because that slot is pretty thin.

Oh, goody! Another way to be horrible to kids because of your own pathetic issues.

You can't just say, "No, sorry."?

Wow. I was just joking. Get a life and a sense of humor. I feel really sorry for your kids. Do you berate them as well if they have independent thoughts that are inconsistent with your view of the world?

I think you are confusion UNICEF with United Way.

How are you on the spot?

Because you have to drop everything and go find money. I have a bowl of candy by the door, not my purse.

This has been going on across America since the 1950s. It is mainstream. What sand did some of the agitated PPs have their heads in.

"Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF— the original Kids Helping Kids® campaign—has raised more than $167 million"

Can't think of anything much more right minded than the global children's international organization having children in the wealthiest country in the world take around a coin box and think of the worlds poorest kids.

Yes, I'm confusion! Down with all U charities!

Also agree that I am anti-UNICEF because they oppose international adoption....

Geez, tough crowd. Yesterday it was beat up on the Salvation Army and Good Will. Today it's UNICEF and the United Way.

I'm 25 and I did this in elementary school. My 58 year old mother says she did as well.

I assume this was a joke, too? A parody of people who are trying to be edgy but are actually just jerks, and then fall back on "Can't you take a joke?"

Well done!

This is my position too. We used to be supporters and believe that whole mission about helping the world's poorest. Then we learned a lot more about their tactics in other countries, what they're willing to put orphaned children through and the way they got their way in several countries. They'll never get another dime from us.

Where do you keep your purse? In the safe? Mine is near the front door anyway. Are you afraid the trick or treaters will storm the castle if you step away for two seconds? You must live in a rough neighborhood....

Collecting for UNICEF is a nice idea for teenagers who really want to trick or treat but feel they might be a little old. Most end up with some candy anyway. I think it's great.

People who could not or did not want to put money in the boxes fell over themselves apologizing to my kids.
The trick is that no one can turn down Unicef-asking kiddies while handing out candy!

That being said:
1. I wouldn't want school pressure on my children to collect money for anything, Unicef being one of the exceptions.
2. It is decidedly awkward to put people on the spot while they are in the "giving" mood during Trick or Treat.
