The reason it's "Mc" is meaning mass produced one right next to the other like how McDonalds creates food. you all wrong.

Is it huge but you own no furniture?
Do you have 4000sq feet and one hooptie in the three car garage?
Do you have a subprime mortgage?
Are YOU shocked you live in this place?
Does your house look like EVERY OTHER house?
Was your house a forest two years ago?
Seriously, look around, is this the largest middle class neighborhood you've ever seen?

Truly wealthy people appreciate the quirky, the unique, the meaningful. Not the boring, the bland, the 'what everyone thinks princesses live in'. Blarg. Have a lovely, large, unique home that fits your personality and your family. Not a big box you (and everyone else) fit into.

Great list!
Don't forget this part:
Was your house a forest (or farm) two years ago? And now there are only sad 3ft tall trees sparsely populating the empty yards?

To me a McMansion is the center hall colonial built on a postage stamp lot. It can be 2000sqft or 4000sqft, if it is out of proportion with the lot it is a McMansion.

Good catch!
Do you think "landscaping" means you have spent tens of thousands of (borrowed) dollars to populate your front yard with what other people consider "weeds"?
Do you feel like your purpose in life is to chop down any remaining mature tree, because it might threaten your "property"?
Do you have coasters/a plaque somewhere/a welcome mat with your "family name"?

wrong again, the Mc is mass production of the same thing over and over again next to each other.

Totally. But the Mc can be a more expansive definition. See above lists.

Or Oakton. Ick.

Cannot stand Oakton, either. What a fake, trying too hard "neighborhood".

I thought a McMansion is a big house on a small lot where it takes up 3/4 of a lot and butts up against the other houses. Or on medium lots where all the houses in the development look the same.
You can definitely have new large houses that are not mcMansions. They just have to be done well.

We have McMansions our way - tons, in fact.

All of them are on 2 acres or more.

They are absolutely hideous.

not a status symbol, imo

In fact, having grown up in custom built homes, people have no idea what quality is. And most who live in these McMansions, while they paid quite a bit, would never be able to afford a REAL custom built home.

I hate most new builds, but that is not a McMansion.
