Do you cover family under both parents health insurance?

Is this normal though? Insurance is expensive enough without paying for it twice.

we only have self and family options, so once we had a kid it didn't make sense to have separate policies and pay more. Plus we're both feds and you're not allowed to have double federal coverage.

Yes, just trying to decide if their is a real benefit to carrying the entire family under both policies. I carry my husband and child. Husband carries just himself and our child, only because he forgot to add me when we got married. I don't want to keep paying for insurance that we don't use.

I'm considering keeping our daughter covered under both policies and dropping him from mine.


I didn't think thisw as allowed, if one insurance finds out you have another policy, they will fight each other over who pays and you end up in a chicken and egg scenario. I found myself in this position about 5 years ago, when I broke a bone and went to ER, and the subrogation insurance contractor investigated the accident looking for liability and somehow discovered we were doubly insured. Was a real shit storm.

Why one earth would you pay to have coverage under two separate health plans? Am I missing something?
