There's one in Dumfries/Montclair!!! 17137 Dumfries Road, Dumfries, VA. I loved Waffle House as a kid and will sometimes make the trek to Dumfries when the cravings call.

Where gourmands would once gather to taste the finest offerings of the ihop chefs, holding their breath in anticipation of the culinary delights in store - roast patridge wings in a cloud of lovage; quail eggs drizzled with veal jus and ponzo essence; and sticky rice with caramelized champagne mango stand out for me - now vats of egg-inspired corn syrup mixtures are disgorged into warm troughs, ready for the snouts of the obese SUV-drivers fresh from their mega-churches and ready for some series carb-loading.

I think it depends on the IHOP franchise owner. Some are clean and well run. Others....well I would never, ever eat at the one in Columbia Heights. The one in Alexandria in a pinch, yes.

Waffle house is actual rat crap. Ihop is just kind of bad. But i have found ihop varies a lot between locations.

I will agree with you about Waffle House -- and I even waited tables at one & still liked it. Pecan waffles, those fabulous hashbrowns.
