Discover is 1% cash back on everything and 5% on things that change quarterly -- example, oct.-dec. is 5% cash back on online shopping. And at any time of the year, if you click on a retailer's link through discover.com and use your card, you can get a higher of % cash back instead of the 1%.
you can also link the $ in your cashback directly to your amazon account. last year i ordered a ton of xmas presents from amazon and paid for almost all of them with my cashback. |

We love our Capital One Cash Rewards card. Seriously, love it. For one thing, no international fees (I travel to Africa a lot for my job and often have to use my own credit card as my work card is a Mastercard, which isn't accepted in most of Africa). The cash back rewards are nice too, basically 1.5 cash back on every purchase (1% and an annual 50% bonus). No having to deal with constantly changing rewards categories.
Finally, their customer service and online user interface has been amazing. Seriously, the most pleasant customer service reps I have ever talked to. They also make it so easy to do things online, even setting travel notifications (which I find to be a huge hassle with my actual bank because they make me call, sit on hold forever, and then answer a million questions). |

I have had an AmeX Blue for at quite a while - I think almost 10 years.
Cash back is easy. Yes it goes as a credit to my statement - but you can also purchase other gift cards. And sometimes at a discount. I have never had an issue and would highly recommend it. |

I have an Amex Preferred card. It charges a $75 annual fee BUT you get 6% cash back for groceries, 3% for gas and 1% for everything else. The groceries is a big deal for us since we have 3 kids and spend a ton on food.
Next, I have an Amazon Visa for my online Amazon purchases (you get 3% back on Amazon Purchases) And, I just obtained a Target Visa because you get 5% cash back for all Target purchases.... |

Most of the PPs are saying cards are good without citing the cash reward percentage.
I used to be vigilant about researching the best deals. I've had my Amex Blue Cash card for a while. They have gradually decreased the award level. Last fall I did more research and realized that the USAA Mastercard was actually a better deal for us given our high spending levels. Theirs is graduated instead of a straight percentage. Amex Blue Cash is currently 3% groceries, 2% gas, 1% everything else. USAA Mastercard Cash Rewards gives .45% on the first $5k, $22.50 plus .85% on $5-10k, $65 plus 1% on $10-17k, and $135 plus 1.25% on all purchases over $17k. Very confusing, but if you put eerything on the card like we do, this works out to be a much better deal. To add to my previous post, I just recalculated the rewards. If we spend $50k per year with the USAA Mastercard, we would wind up with a 1.5% total reward.
