Not only that, but she/he talks about the 13 year old using her babysitting money. 13 year olds rarely, if ever, get hired to babysit. |
When do they do homework? I envy your time to focus on sports and family time. Our kids are at Deal and they get some time consuming project virtually every weekend starting in October-June. It is absurd and frankly depressing. The kids are A students but the homework is really a huge drain on their time. |
Friday-events relating to his sports - game, team dinner, etc., goes to home football games, sometimes has to stay home if SATs (happened a lot in 11th grade) or games/meets the next day. Saturday -goes out with GF, dinner, etc. Sometimes watch movies at our house or hers. 12 pm curfew because of license restrictions. It was 11 when we had to drive. |
My 12 year old is in college. But she does not babysit. |
Friday and Saturday nights my 13 year old plays video games if allowed. Sometimes we do movie/pizza night on either of those nights. Saturday during the day he has practice and then on Sunday a game during the day and another training that evening. Homework must be done on Saturday's as there is no time to do it on Sundays.
I keep wondering when he is going to start hanging out with friends. I know girls are already doing this at this age so I dont know if boys are a bit slower or if it's just my son and his friends. He would play video games 24/7 if I let him. Since school started there are no video games during the week so he wants to play any chance he gets on the weekend. Occasionally he has gone to the movies with friends but usually he doesn't ask about getting together with friends. Mostly he has friends spend the night, but then they spend the entire night playing video games. |
I could have written this post! My 13 year old is exactly like this. I think it's pretty normal. |
My 8 year old will graduate from college this year. Parents of 13 year olds in our neighborhood hire him to babysit their unruly teens. He is a calming influence and inspiration to them, although they do tend to get a bit wistful about what they COULD have been had they applied themselves. |
My in utero kid is working on an exciting new translation of Le Rouge et le Noir. |
I know the parent of the 13 year old was humble bragging but it is something to think about when kids skip grades. Who wants a 13 year old in 10th grade! |
Friday - dinner w friends and watch tv or go to football game.
Saturday - avoid the parties in Potomac so as not to get tased. Sunday - homework. |
y Teams have mandatory study tables from 2:45-4:30 mon-Fri. The boys have to use that time to do homework, a few Teachers are available to tutor them if needed. Weekend homework is usually writing papers which my son does at study table. All papers are done on iPads which school provides. I don't pay much attention to DS homework as long as he's getting A's. |
Yep. She'll be 14 in November. |
Maybe that's where you live. Where I live there are four or five houses with little kids (elementary school to baby) and two houses with teens (mine and another) and those two girls get hit up for babysitting all the time. |
16 year old. Friday is usually sports practice. Saturday morning is usually sports of some kind. At night it is either family dinner, babysitting, going out to dinner/movie with friends, or hanging out in our finished basement with friends. |
I was babysitting at 12 or 13 years old, so was my sister. Not unheard of. |
