Will you let your son(s) play football?

| No. DH is from Nebraska, a huge football fan who played football in high school, and even he now wouldn't let our kids play. I always thought it would be a huge source of disagreement between DH, his family and me, so the concussion studies of the past few years have been fortunately timed. |

Big difference. Yes, you may fall and sustain a TBI while doing many different activities, but the continual hitting in football to even below concussive levels has a horrible effect on one's brain. |

| Football and hockey are definitely out. I will think about soccer, but given that it it second to football in concussions, and I have read at least one study that found that a significant percentage of college soccer players have abnormal brain MRIs, I may rule that out. He can go ahead and hate me. |

| We watched some of the opening NFL game, Ravens vs. Broncos. I noticed that when there was an injury, the broadcast quickly cut to upbeat pre-prepared segments. I also noticed there were slick PR spots on how head injury is supposedly being reduced in youth players. I think the NFL is running scared on this issue and is doing damage control, spin, and whatever else it can do to protect its profits and popularity. |

Oh come on, there's no way you can put football and soccer in the same basket. Football's intent to knock players down. Just one look at the equipment tells you that. My 12 year old has been playing soccer for 2 seasons a year since he was 5. That's a lot of games. Never had a concussion or been injured on the field, nor have I seen this with any of his teammates. Is there a chance of something happening, and do kids get hurt playing soccer? Yes, of course they do. But it is not even in the same ballpark as football. |
