Make sure he takes his shots. Do not eat street food under any circumstances and always insist on bottled water.
Watch out for pickpockets,and don't flash smartphones/tablets etc. As long as he is going to a major city he should be fine. His local colleagues should be able to provide good advice.
Also ask him to be careful while shopping. There are many touts. Stick with the more reputable stores.
