Working moms: who watches your child over the summer break while you are at work?

| PP I don't think people said that at all. In fact most said they combine camps and vacation. And a lot of these camps are pretty much like a vacation, especially sleepaway camps. |

My mother worked and thanks to her working we had a country house and spent the summers there with a summer babysitter and it was absolutely magical. I am so happy she wasn't a SAHM. |

OP here: I specifically asked for Working Moms' comments, but would have been pleased to hear from SAHMs that had some good ideas. But, you just decided to write a bitchy comment to try and make me feel guilty about what I do in my life. You SUCK! But I am happy to know that my post validates your decision to be a SAHM - obviously you weren't too sure about it earlier or you woud have kept your comments to yourself. |

There are great camps, and not-so-great ones. The Y is cheap, and was good enough when my son was 4. It didn't offer enough when he was older.
As for the SAHM who loves to condescend - my son spent his days having a great time at his wonderful camps. He went boating, hiking, horseback riding, did arts, played soccer, had soccer training with professional coaches (perhaps not as good as kicking a ball in the back yard with a mom and a snotnosed sibbling, but good enough for us). To the OP - it is REALLY HARD the first year because the fun camps don't accommodate kindergardeners. If you can afford it, the private schools run some good programs (they rent out their campuses to camps). It gets easier. A cheap but fun option is All American Sports Camps. They run programs throughout the area. Good luck. Don't think for a minute that your kid won't feel like he had a vacation, and good answer to that snotmom. |

Oh yeah (PP HERE).
The Levine school runs great programs for little guys. Pricey with extended day, but worth every dime. You can pay for camp through an FSA. |

DD of a super full time working mom and studying/working dad.
I spent the best summers of my life in the farm with grandparents, summer camps, family vacation, playdates with neighboors, weeks with grandparents living out of town... I LOVED IT and THAT WAS SUMMER! don't feel bad because you work. once your child grows up he/she will thank you for the effort! |
