Swimming in rivers can be very dangerous. PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL!!!!!

Take a xanax, city girl.

Any natural body of water where you don't know where the bottom is, can't see swimmers, or is moving, e.g., tide or current will be more dangerous than swimming in a pool.

Even experienced athletes and adults who are very used to being in and on the water drown:

So no eye rolling necessary.

But cheseakpeake is not cleanest for swimming is it? Kids are young. No pools?

It's not that bad. I grew up swimming in it, and I let my child swim in it.

My swim club is open through next weekend, but you're probably not a member, if you're asking.

What about going tubing in Harper's ferry?

I thought there is a jellyfish alert for the Cheseapeake Bay beaches?

Yep, mine is open through the end of sept. The Bethesda Y outdoor pool is open year round. I laugh when I get the notices in Feb that it's below 32 so the pool will open at 10. I can't imagine swimming in 35 degree weather but people do. I think the water is heated but at some point you have to get out of the water into the air and stand in the concrete.

When I lived in AZ, a few people died every year from the brain eating amoeba after swimming in Lake Havasu. Honestly, it put me off fresh water swimming. I did it once in Spain....dont need to do it again and won't take my kids. Personal choice.

What about switching to an indoor pool in DC? There are some great waterfalls/shallow swimming holes in Shenandoah. We recently took both kids in hiking backpacks and they loved it.

Lake Anna and Deep Creek Lake both have swimming after Labor Day.

I was just in the Potomac River today (north of Great Falls) We were paddling, but got in for a minute to swim. It was cold. Kids were then cold for the rest of the trip. Gages say 78 degrees, but the sun was not shining, so it felt colder.
