New Principal at Miner Elementary, Should I enroll my child ???

The new interim principal is a temporary fix that is not guaranteed to work. The interim principal was previously at Savoy ES and has no record of student achievement. (DCCAS Reading at Savoy in 2011 was 20.40% Proficient and Advanced. Math was 15.38% Proficient and Advanced. DCCAS Reading in 2010 was 22.01% Prof. and Advanced. Math was 21.38% Prof. and Advanced). The assistant principal holdover at Miner is no more than a glorified clerk with very little experience in instruction.

To the OP, I would definitely go to miner for preK. We were at a similar ward 6 school for preschool and it was great.

Yes, drive down 16th Street. It's not fenced like Potomac Gardens, but it's pretty clearly a housing project.

As the OP, I apologize for asking about a repetitive topic. Like I said, I am new to the neighborhood and new to this board. I have "clear knowledge" because I have done my research, I just wanted a personal opinions of people who knew more than what a numbers can tell. I realize there is more to a school than a test score. I am closer to Maury, however as mentioned before, they have a wait list for the grade I need, PreK4, where as Miner does not. I don't see why you felt the need to respond, if you weren't going to be helpful. But I guess thanks to you I'm also learning why some view people in Capitol Hill as a bunch of obnoxious assholes.

Thank you to the other two, informative, responses.

Not sure why you moved to a place where you have such contempt for the people who live there... but um.... welcome to the neighborhood?, I guess?

The Pentacle is not a public housing project. It's subsidized housing, affordable housing, whatever you want to call it, but not the same as Potomac Gardens. Some whip smart kids live there.

No one said that "whip smart" kids couldn't live in a housing project.

Miner is in a rougher area than Maury just by virtue of being just that much closer to Options, which is a real problem or the neighbors.

By about 2 blocks. I think you're really reaching here...

No idiot, it is not the Pentacle. Azee-Bates is closer and some wondee why whites are looked upon as pains in the asses.

Know what you're talking about because "Google" is not always a correct point of reference. Sheesh

Not reaching -- people in bounds for Maury rarely have to cross past Options, whereas it's on the way for people coming from the west to Miner. The lack of security/order around Options does Miner no favors.
