Best private schools in PG?

Really the best option is to go to the open house, tour the facilities, meet the falculty and administration, evaluate the proximity to your home and see what seems like a good fit for your child. There will always be mixed reviews on schools. Besides the county is huge, to me there are few schools that are worth making a long commute, so you may get better suggestions if you indicate what area you are interested in.

Friends is great as long as your child doesn't have any issues. Their hands off approach resulted in my friend's fifth grader not being able to read.

On the contrary. My DC has had a great experience. I don't understand this comment at all.

If it was the only kid I'd heard of with this issue then I'd say it was odd but it's not. At Friend's they let concepts come and don't apply pressure, it's the Quaker way, and as a result children we know haven't had the skills at even close to their grade level. Like the kid that couldn't read other kids couldn't do math.

Any insight into Maryland Intl Day or st. Columba ?

I really hate these kind of subjective vague questions. Best in PG? According to whom? Seems like whenever you talk to anyone about a school, someone invariably says "I've heard mixed reviews." Right. Someone's kid didn't do well and they are bad mouthing. Someone didn't like the way they taught math. Someone else LOVES it.

I haven't heard anything good about St Ambrose at all. We have had friends pull their kids out after clashes with the principal. People say it used to be good back in the day but not anymore.

I was going to look at St. Ambrose for my kindergarten student. The area is convenient for me to get to work on Pennsylvania avenue. Can anyone recommend a school in which I can get to work by 8 am and drop the child off to a before care. I live in largo Maryland so I would need something I can get to by 7:15 and continue to work. Thanks guys if you can help.

We love St. Ambrose, particularly the principal. Post any specific concerns you may have about the school.

Are there any updated reviews on Saint Ambrose school in cheverly. We are not happy with our public shool kindegarten class in pg county with 29 kids and one teacher. We cannot afford holy trinity but someone recommended Saint Ambrose. Looking for our daughter for first grade? Do many of the kids stay and will there be spots available?

St. Ambrose is having an open house on Sunday, January 26th from 11-1. Might be a good place to start.

Not true! I've never seen a principal more engaged. If they did pull their kids out, it was probably over some BS that the principal wasn't going to tolerate. Go see for yourself. I guarantee you, the parents will tell you a different story.

Very funny. I guess your friend had quite a hands off approach too and woke up one day to realize, oops, my fifth grader doesn't read!

Snarky comment. I'm not the PP from above, but I've heard the same criticism about their approach to math instruction. Hands off, "everyone learns eventually" and then when someone doesn't they find out too late and leave.
