Has anyone been able to "tour" an elementary school?

I want to fully educate myself and don't want to rule out our public school option. However, when I called Luxmanor elementary and asked if I could attend the open house for kids going into school this fall (it was in May) they told me I couldn't and it was only for new students. I asked if I could visit the school during the fall and was told no. I can't wait until next May because private schools require that you make a decision before March. Help?

Did you ask when you could visit? Most schools I know of allow parents to visit. Maybe they have certain times for visiting.

Ashburton ES offered us a tour when we stopped by to register last month. It wasn't much to see (everything torn apart for cleaning) but I was glad for the opportunity.

The front office may say that they don't do tours, but if you have a specific question and can get the call transferred to an administrator, they can arrange it. I was able to meet privately with a principal, and observe a kindergarten class last spring when I was unsure if I would send my child to our local school. The principal and teacher were more than happy to accommodate me, although the front office staff has to weed out general inquiries and may not help much.

A front office staff person gave us our tour. Happens once a month.

Agree that now isn't the time to ask. We toured 4 schools last year in MoCo...never an issue, they had them weekly, all in silver spring.
