Stoddert parents--Patricia Pride as principal

Anonymous
I m a current parent at Stoddert and This is completely ridiculous. Teachers did not like her because she held them accountable for their students progress. Do you know that there is no unified curriculum at Stoddert? Pride was demanding that they work together not as secular educators for the kids. Some teachers said they would leave and PTA flipped. Those teachers run the show. And, I heard that the Chancellors office told Principals to not comment on the Fllmore thing. Everyone has to protect their jobs right.

Interesting perspective. Parents don't get to see the inner workings of a school usually. So unless you are one of those teachers you may not have an accurate picture of what was going on. Doubtful that PTA flipped out. They seemed pretty thoughtful and asked a lot of questions before making any recommendations. Not an easy situation but it's all worked out.

There is no unified curriculum anywhere, the common core started this year and DCPS has published it's first curricula since Rhee only this year for English and math and rolled it out to teachers month by month. This new year there is now a curricula and scope and sequence.

Also, Stoddert's CAS scores jumped significantly under Pride. Just saying maybe, she was doing the right thing for our kids. She was treated very poorly by a lot of people

Knew her at Stoddert, and loved her. She left because teachers were unhappy with her - I have no insight into why, but I know parents wanted to keep her.

I'm thrilled that she is now at Hardy - and from what I understand of the interview, the Hardy teachers were very satisfied with her answers about whatever problems she had with Stoddert teachers - so everybody is on board.

Big step forward for Hardy.

She was one was of the last to arrive to school and one of the first to leave for the day everyday.

She failed at Jefferson MS. She failed at Stoddert. She will fail at Hardy.

She puts on a good show but lacks substance and follow through. One again, she was proven not good enough to be a school leader in the suburbs but good enough for DC students.

Scores rise at Stoddert because teachers work hard to get their IMPACT bonuses despite the fact that they had a leader who did not add value to the school.

Good luck Hardy.

Totally disagree. She is super smart, she speaks her mind (not a total company guy), she gets kids and is totally dedicated to her job.

Stoddert and principal pride were like oil and water. Neither one intrinsically bad, they just didn't mix. I second a PP's comment that unless you were experiencing this from inside the building , there is just no way you could truly know how it was. Stoddert has a good group of teachers who care a lot about their students and value the warm school culture. Why doubt their insights? Anyway the new principal seems very mind and experienced. Time to heal and move past this. Good luck to Ms. Pride at Hardy. They will liky benefit from all she learned at Stoddert.

Worked with her-showed major favoritism toward younger teachers of a particular race-had favorites-made it very obvious-gossiped behind teachers’ backs constantly-unprofessional. Also seemed to want males around for positions. Demonstrated little parent involvement. Had no control over school and behaviors-kids did what they wanted. Didn’t believe in teachers except for the selected few. Wouldn’t want to work with her again. Another save for her until she’s pitied to some other victimized school. Sad and pathetic....I think we all know why

You do realize this thread is five years old, right?

It took action by the DC Council to reverse the cuts. Now, it might have been impossible for Pride alone to have encouraged DCPS to change its misguided policy; but the perception that the principal is doing something is the most important display of leadership from an observer's standpoint. When parents and teachers are made to feel that you, the leader, are standing up for them, then they will stand up for you. And re-hire you when the time comes. That didn't happen, obviously.

Or it could be because Fillmore isn't good and SHOULD go away.

Common core started in 2009, maybe at Stoddert but that's not the truth. DC CAS was 2009, Rhee's first year and adoption of PARCC to follow.
