Also put you rent in escrow ASAP.

bull shit, your contact is with the landlord you pay until the bank evicts you.

I'd seriously consider the fact that your landlord may not be keeping up with his mortgage either and is just pocketing your rent. This happened recently to a couple in our neighborhood who were renting a house.

doesn't matter , its none of your business if the landlord pockets the rent.

Pay your full rent.

Ask the condo board more about the situation. I'm sure they'll be happy to tell you.

The same thing happened to us, we found out our landlord owed 15k in back condo fees when an eviction notice was place on our door by the condo assoc. lawyers. We contacted an attorney because we were more or less locked out of the building (our fobs were turned off so we couldn't get into the parking garage, or the building after the desk person was off for the night) we then found late he was not making mortgage payments, we paid our rent to an escrow account for he remainder of our lease and the bank and condo assoc worked it out.

Landlord committing fraud I'd want no part of

Yikes, it sounds like there are a lot of landlords on here trying to propogate the idea that tenants don't have rights.

OP, I don't know what the best course of action is, but I'd try to get an expert opinion. Call a landlord / tenant hotline, or a lawyer.

Pay the rent to the owner minus the condo fee, pay that to the association, submit the receipt to the owner and say you covered it for them.

nope, you wrote a contract with the landlord , he has a contract with the bank and condo board. STFU and pay your rent , if you don't like it buy a place.

OP here - is this really the logic you're going to go with? Guess who is not holding up their end right now (hint - not us.) We are NOT getting what was so prominently advertised when we decided to rent this place. I don't think it's unreasonable to demand that either that be upheld or some compensation be offered. I do think it's an issue of financial distress but aside from being cognizant that an eviction notice could show up any day if the place is foreclosed, it's really not my concern.

Op, there are a lot of landlords posting.

I would check your lease, but if the apartment was advertised with amenities included in rent, this is not ok. Nt sure what the remedy is

Boohoo , did your lease promise those amenities ?

I'd plan to move. This is a bad situation, and some condo boards have successfully been able to get the units sold for being severely in arrears. And yes, it is also possible that the owner isn't paying the mortgage either. If there's a landlord clause saying they have to keep up payments form he appropriate fees, like a pp noted, you may have grounds to break your lease. Sorry, OP

The link above is not fully on point because the landlord is NOT providing everything that was agreed to (pool gym etc)
