OP here--5w5d scan showed no clear sac. Doctor says this is 100% not viable, and wants me to take methotrexate tomorrow in case it's in the tubes (part of the tubes were not visible on the scan).
This just seems SO early to me for methotrexate!! But she seems so sure of herself. She says she can see pregnancies as early as the beginning of the 4th week, and if we are almost at week 6 and there's nothing, there's no reason to wait. |
OP, hang in there. I am so sorry to hear this, but if *you* can handle waiting another few days, I think you should. I had an u/s at 5 weeks to rule out an ectopic and there was nothing to see - just a black dot in a sea of gray. By 6.5 weeks there was a clear sac and a heartbeat. |
So sorry to hear this OP. Can you get a second opinion quickly to put your mind at ease? If it is a possible ectopic, I would not wait since a ruptured tube is not something to mess around with...but it just doesn't sound like your OB is giving you the support you need to get through this. If you can at all get another OB to confirm her diagnosis, I would. Also, did they do another beta? If your levels are dropping or tapering, that might also help you feel more comfortable that her dx is correct. |
Are you seeing an RE? When this happened to me, I had blood work to test for HCG level and two additional ultrasounds to make sure there's no embryo development before we scheduled for a D&C. |
I have been in this situation twice (doctor pushing methtrexate). The first time I had no symptoms of ectopic, just no sac and dropping betas. I refused methotrexate and had a natural miscarriage. The second time was different. I had pain on the right side. You could see the pregnancy in the tube on ultrasound. I took the methotrexate. It was too late, my tube ruptured anyway, and I had emergency surgery to remove it.
Good luck, OP!! |
