And for the women?

In addition, did you ever see one woman during the campaign as a spokesman for Obama except for Michelle and Oprah's short stint as pep rally cheerleader? Where the women!!!!

I saw the cabinet likely list this morning and won a free dinner from my boss. He was an Obama supporter and I a McCain supporter. I told him three (3) months ago that if Obama was elected the cabinet would contain: NO JEWS, NO BLACKS and NO WOMEN. Further I postulated that we would see a recycling of the Clinton White House, and lo and behold - look who's back - Ron Emanuel - misogynist viper man.

But Rahm Emanuel IS Jewish. He's Orthodox.

He's not headed for a cabinet post.

Obama certainly had very few women and people of color in his top campaign roles. Valerie Jarrett is an exception, of course. She came to Barack via Michelle.

I'm not surprised Obama tapped Emanuel but the choice certainly sends an interesting message to Congress. I'm much more surprised that Axelrod is going to the White House. But I am hijacking the thread, and I apologize.

Where did you get your hypothesis?

I believe Rahm Emanuel is Jewish.

did you see an official list? my mcain supporting husband said many times during the campaign that mccain had far more women in positions of power then obama did, fwiw.

the thing is, and i KNOW i will get flamed for this idea, that women will not have power until we accept that feminism is about equal responsibility, not "equal choices." the issue with educated women opting out, as they say, leads to our remaining on the sidelines. fair or not, how can people trust that we (as individuals) will stick it out when so many educated women are opting or dropping out. say all you want that being equal means that we women get to make choices about whether and when we want to work, but the reality is that most successful men don't have that choice -- they are responsible for themselves and their families. so should we be.

i am not trying to start a home vs. work debate, but recognize that i may be doing just that. flame away, if you must.

Not sure if you saw it yesterday but Condi Rice gave a very gracious speech about the election of Barack Obama. I often feel that Condi gets no credit for her accomplishments as an African-American woman because she works for a hated administration. Frankly, Bush got no credit for the diversity in his cabinet and it was a heck of a lot more diverse than Clinton's.

Chief of Staff is not a cabinet post - look at the list of cabinet likelies - you'll see what I mean.

ABSOLUTELY RIGHT ON! I too felt that she got no credit for her achievement. No one was walking around the street crying from happiness when she was given her post. And Bush got no mileage out of it because he so clearly liked her and listened to her. I'm sorry, but really, screwed AGAIN! And no even a female press spokesperson. CRAP!

Any such list is pure speculation. I would wait for the real list.

15:36 you're right, which is why I so hoped Hillary would stake her claim to the Presidency. She represents the last of the hard-driving feminists-- mothers who worked for professional accomplishment throughout their lives (the I can have it all generation). If they couldn't elect a president, how can my generation, which largely accepts the "I can have it all but not at the same time" mentality do it?

That said, as Obama showed us, it only takes one. One African American in the Senate, and he becomes President! So surely one of the 17 women Senators or 8 women Governors can do it to.

I think Obama needs to feel the pressure to appoint women. There are plenty of women out there with credentials.

There is a problem if the speculative list has so few female names. A BIG PROBLEM. That means the people in the party that the journalists are talking to don't know any women, can't think of what woman might be qualified, and haven't had women's names floated to them. NOT ACCEPTABLE.

I caught a little bit of the Condi Rice comments. I saw a softer side to her that I had never seen before.

With respect to my views of her, I have the utmost respect for her intellect, education, experience and how she carries and portrays herself. Women and African Americans have every right to find pride in Ms. Rice's achievements, posting as the Secretary of State. when I see her in news clips, I don't see that she is AA or female. I think I see beyond just the statistics that she is African-American and a woman. I see her as a qualified person for the job.

PP Here, forgot to add that the idea that this is acceptable on the heels of Hillary's historic defeat makes me ill. These men have not had their "click" when it comes to women's issues.

Earlier, the complaint was that the cabinet excluded blacks, Jews, and women. Anyone who believes that will be the case is delusional. It now appears that interest in blacks and Jews has been dropped. Bush's cabinet also included a Muslim and none of you have showed any concern that Obama's wouldn't.

Obviously, Obama will have a diverse cabinet that will include blacks, Jews, and women. Sadly, it probably won't include a Muslim or openly homosexual person of any race or gender.

Clare McCaskill (unimpressive, IMO), Kathleen Sebelius, and Janet Napolitano (spelling? -- until her being single was an issue).

His cabinet will also include Republicans.
