That is way too much food. Our cat weighs 15 and should weight 12. Our vet just recommended 1/3 c dry food (he eats Science Diet) twice a day for a month, then drop to 1/3 + 1/4 c, then after a month or two 1/4 c twice a day. He said cats shouldn't lose weight too quickly. |
Very experienced cat breeder here: Be careful with your older cat's diet. Cats are wonderful pets, but they hate diets. They will take a revenge you do not like. I am not kidding. Cats are very intelligent -- they will tear up something that you use a lot, or pee on your bed if you suddenly decrease their food. The cat is old, it is fat, what's done is done, it is OK. GL! |
^^ Mine give me a little bite to let me know they are hungry. They do escalate if they do not get fed. (It is the kids job and sometimes they forget) They also know when the food bag is empty, and get very pushy. |
