Cape May Point Beaches - Does it feel like you are swimming in the bay or the ocean?

I live in Cape May Point year round. My husbands family have been here since the 1920's. Our house is off St. Peter's beach and it is very shore like, you wouldn't know it's where the ocean meets the bay. Good waves! No hotels or motels, one general store, very quiet even in the summer, no loud music or party's. The water is cold till late July but great in September
