Just bought a new year down home in Vienna

Growth is spreading rapidly - Vienna is beginning their own knock downs. In just a few years, it will be mostly knock downs. See the other inner suburbs. Change is inevitable.

Welcome to the neighborhood, OP.

The number of teardowns is increasing. You will soon outnumber the grouches. I live in a small colonial built in the 1970s. I wish we could live in one of the new homes, but it didn't work out that way. We don't resent anyone. IN fact, we are glad those nce new homes are going up. They will likely raise our property values.

Don't judge Vienna on a few pouty people. Join the Vienna Moms. It is a great group.

There are enough teardowns that I wouldn't worry about having a new house at all. Also Vienna has a very strict impervious coverage of 25%, so there's no reason for your neighbors to dislike the new houses. It's not like they're on top of a smaller house next door or anything. Vienna Moms is great.

Welcome to Vienna. I am pretty sure you will love it here! Teardowns are spreading like wildfire in Vienna, so I'm sure most people are used to it. I think you will find most people in Vienna re very friendly and vlaue living in a "small town" in the DC suburbs and anyone who can contribute positively to the community is welcome.

OP, Congratulations on your success! I have never known an UNsuccessful person to purchase a NEW home The new neighbors should be grateful, but alas there WILL be resentment. You are wise to know that.

Regardless, enjoy your new home that you worked hard to build. While ITA that you need not a chip on your shoulder, be aware, and not overly anything, and you should do fine.

There is a recent trend of old homeowners trying to bully and goad new homeowners. DO NOT ENGAGE. Hopefully this will not be the case with you, but it is becoming very common, predictable, and well known in this age of new home construction.

Face it, most of the old homeowners would never be able to own a new home in their own neighborhood right now - or they would! Given the choice, didn't you yourself choose a NEW home??!! While some of them may be fine with this, some are not.

My friend lives next to the neighborhood whacko who used to reside in (my friends) new house when the whacko neighbor was a student renter. The whacko bought the next door house on foreclosure. I swear my friend hears his blood boil every time a new house is constructed. The other neighbors ignore his inaccurate gossip and goading, as he has a bad reputation (he made it for himself), and he has gotten rather desperate in recent years. The whacko neighbor resorts to anything - slander, libel, trespassing, mobbing, you name it! Hopefully you won't have one of those. But I must say, their neighborhood really is becoming more and more beautiful by the week.

I would be grateful and not complain if I were in an old home. The new homes pay almost twice the taxes of the old homes, and practically carry the tax base.

Enjoy your new home in good health and ignore any troublesome and/or troublemaking "less than"s - it is their BEHAVIOR, not their money, that makes them so!

OMG, it's you again! Can you please stop posting about your "friend?"

+1. That's not hate. It's commiseration.
