How to keep birds out of our carport rafters?

We had birds nesting in the underside of our decking, which led to snakes slithering up there to eat the eggs. That's not fun.

P6! Where have you been?

Just wash your windshield once a week when you get gas. Or put an old sheet on your windshield. Don't forget to take it off before you drive away.

What about painting the ceiling sky blue? I know porches of old home did this believing birds got confused. Not sure how effective it was.

Ha! I'm the OP (still hanging around DCUM 4 years later...wonder what that says about me??) and I opened this thread not realizing it was mine.

We did put a net up, but due to the weird way our carport is, we couldn't completely cover the carport and the birds still found their way in. Plus, they created holes in the mesh to get in that way. We do need to put spikes down. A friend used the sticky stuff and had birds die stuck to it

I wish it were as simple as washing off only the windshield, but they crap on the entire car. We've gotten rid of the nests but those jerks come back and rebuild.

OP- you need to call an exterminator for advice. They can deter birds in a humane way. We used the bird glue because we had birds persistently building nests on the poles under our deck. No dead birds- it sounds like your birds roost- ours were building and went elsewhere when it got tough under the deck. Birds near your home, car, etc need to go. Bird mites, lice, raccoons, snakes, etc.
Bird spikes may work.
