Another vote for grand floridian

OP, if you give us more details (how many kids and their ages, how long you plan on staying, is your budget completely open, or do you have a limit, etc?) we can probably recommend stuff that works better for you.

I am a pp that recommended the suites at the Boardwalk Inn. That was good for my family because my kids are older and we planned to spend most of our time at Epcot and Hollywood Studios. If my kids were younger (toddler or preschool age) and we planned to spend more time at the Magic Kingdom, then Grand Floridian, Polynesian, or Contemporary might have been a better choice.

Thank you for your response. We want high end so money is not a factor (not to sound arrogant but we don't take many trips so we want this to be really enjoyable for all). We will spend most of our time at magic kingdom. A resort with a beach would be nice. We also will go to harry potter since it is our first time we will spend most of our time at magic kingdom. Kiddies are 9 and 7 boy and girl.

While some of the hotels have sandy beaches, swimming is not allowed in the water. They do have boats you can rent to take out though, and of course swimming pools for swimming.

Harry Potter is at Universal's Island of Adventure--this is totally separate from Disney World, so Disney transportation won't take you there. You'll have to either rent a car or hire a taxi (or if you are driving to Florida in your own car, use that) to get there.

If I were in your position, I would get a suite at the Grand Floridian.

At 9 and 7, I'd question the choice to stay mostly at MK.

We're Disney regulars, and at that age most of my son's favorite things were at Epcot, Disney Quest, and the waterparks.

The quality of the pool was also huge at that age. I'd choose the Beach Club for the best pool on property.

I would do Grand Floridian or Polynesian if you prefer MK. Yacht Club for Epcot.

Have you ever seen these suites? Wow! I'm the pp whose SIL stayed at the VP suite at BWI. Sounds like that was nothing compared to GF suites!

For my 2 cents I vote Bay Lake. You can't beat being able to walk to the MK. The resort monorail takes 20 minutes to go around so it can take some time.

I have to say, we stayed at GF over New Years this year (after a couple years of Bay Lake stays) and I far prefer Bay Lake. I'd get a 1 bedroom at Bay Lake so you and your husband have some of your own space. While our room was nice at GF, I missed having our own dedicated adult space and I the decor did not suit my style (reminded me too much of a grandmothers house with all the floral).

If you're talking about splurging- get a 1 bedroom theme park view at Bay Lake. It's wonderful to watch the fireworks from your room (we had a THeme Park view over New Years at GF and it was wonderful to watch the firework from the comfort of our balcony and BLT is even closer.)

Grand Floridian is the closest you can get to magic kingdom. They have a pretty little private boat tht shuttles you over ....feels very exclusive. Rooms are nice. Pools are nice and I believe they have a little beach, too. We stayed once and while the room was nice it didn't have a view. But I hey if you are willing up spend some dough there are rooms with that quintessential view of Cinderella castle..
They also have a very elegant restaurant with a prix fix tasting menu if you decide to do a date night.

PP here. Sorry for typos.
I also think that guests of Grand Floridian and the other on-property resorts have access to magic kingdom one hour earlier than public....

OP said that "money is not a factor". Forget 1 bedroom villas or suites--they should be getting a 2 bedroom!

Op here. Thank you for all of the replies! Very helpful. This is the beauty of DCUM. All of you took the time out of your day to help an anonymous person and it was so helpful to me. Appreciated!!

We just stayed at the Polynesian. It was fine - we still had the boat to the MK, extra park hours and monorail at our hotel - but looking around I think I would rather have stayed at the Grand Floridian. Everything was brighter.

I'm the PP who was pushing the Beach Club. It's still what I'd pick. But now I'm going to be sexist and ask whether you have boys or girls or one of each.

We took a trip a few years ago with my 6 year old son and 9 year old niece. My niece was entranced by the Grand Floridian when we went there for high tea. She loved the princessy feel, and the fact that you could eat with Alice from Wonderland. My son thought it was fine, but he thought the rest of the resorts were fine too. In fact the only resort that ever wowed him was the All Star Sports, which is in Disney's bargain group.

I'd vote Beach Club either way, because both kids loved that pool so much, and being able to walk to Epcot and try a different restaurant each night is my idea of heaven, but I think if I had a girl I might choose Grand Floridian over BLT, but if I had a boy I'd choose the opposite.
