Do you do your own hot oil treatment? what do you use? |
I did a coconut oil treatment this weekend and I cannot believe how amazing my hair looks and feels. I'm white, hair is boob-length, on the dry side, reddish, not super thick but definitely not thin either.
I melted 4T of coconut oil. Dampened my hair, spread the oil on, and put it under a shower cap for like 3 hours while I did housework. Washed it out (shampoo'ed twice to make sure it was out) and that's it. It's shiny, soft, about 80% frizz reduction, I can't believe it. 3 people at work have commented, it's amazing. |
Anagram oil seems to make my haie flat - could it be I don't blow it out? |
OP here with an update: I bought a tub of coconut oil. The first time I slapped some on, waited 20 minutes, then shampooed and conditioned as normal. My hair seemed shinier and MUCH less frizzy.
Yesterday I slapped more on, and waited three hours. It's a bitch getting the stuff on, because I have so much hair, but the lack of frizz is SO WORTH IT! |
My hair is curly and I use coconut oil, i have so many hair products for curly hair and I can say that coconut oil is probably the best natural one, it makes my hair really soft and smooth. The only problem is that its quite hard to wash out of the hair. I've alos found this article about coconut oil for hair growth, it says that if you apply coconut oil on your roots regularly, you rhair will be growing faster. |
Use the coconut oil on your skin & on your lips, so soft.... |
Argan oil is supposed to be a good frizz tamer. I have straight hair with other issues - wispies and dry/dull.
I use 2-3 pumps of argan oil, rub it on my palms and smooth it very thinly over my hair especially on the part and at the ends. It gives my hair a nice rustling texture and shine. A lot of products weigh my hair down or make it look greasy, but this is a dry oil and you only apply a few drops. |
Does Argan oil build up on your hair over time? |
I love the Morrocan Oil intense curl cream. It is expensive, but one container has lasted me for many months. It helps define my curl, soften my hair, which is prone to frizz, and makes it shinier. I tried a knock-off brand that was half-price at a discount beauty store. Sad to report it wasn't as good as the name brand Moroccan Oil. I think like anything else, you have to experiment and see what works for you. |
Would Coconut Milk work? I have thick, but fine hair and think the oils would really weigh it down...any reason not to try the can of coconut milk I have in my cupboard? |
I am argan oil PP. No build up. I've been using it about a year so it would have happened by now. It just soaks in. |
I've been using argan oil on my hair and face for several years. It does't build up, but I think it does faintly color my hair and skin yellowish-orangeish. It washes out, and when I don't use it, then the color is gone. But when I apply it, my hair looks a bit redder, and my face looks a bit more orange/tan. |
You should consider changing your hair products to something without sulfates, and avoid *cones (dimethecone is a commonly found *cone that should be avoided.
I use devacurl products for shampoo (they call it "no poo") and conditioner, but there are lots of products out there that will work; cheap-o Suave has some good options. Let www.naturallycurly.com become your new best friend. When I started following the recommendations on the forums there and found a stylist who knows how to cut curly hair (deva cut), I found out that what I'd thought was just variable wavy hair on my head is actually gorgeous big ringlets. I've gotten more compliments on my hair in the last year (since I started the new regimen) than I'd gotten in the past ten years. Good luck |
It works great in my Caucasian hair. |
Get it at Homegoods or Marshall's. That's where I fill up on mine. |
