a block schedule is when students take classes in 90 minute blocks vs 45 or 50 minute classes. The benefits include that there are fewer transitions (which is often when a lot of behavioral problems occur), there's more instructional time to study subjects in depth.

The drawbacks are as pp mentioned you can't do as many electives. Sometimes a school will alternate a schedule so that students will have an "a " day and a "b' day so students will take certain classes every other day or they have a 45 minute elective at the end of the day.

Thank you.

Frankly, it is upsetting that the principal is leaving after just two years at the school.

Naked careerism.

Apparently the rumors of a new principal are true. What else is true about the changes mentioned by OP?

Dear Blair Cluster Community members,

The MCPS Board of Education met this evening and announced the new Principal for Takoma Park Middle School.

As of July 1, 2013, Ms. Alicia Deeny, one of the current Assistant Principals at Blair High School, will be the new Principal of Takoma Park Middle School.

Before becoming the Assistant Principal at Blair, Ms. Deeny worked as a resource teacher and Spanish teacher at TPMS. She was also the head of the World Language Department at TPMS before moving on to Blair.

Please join me in congratulating Ms. Deeny on her appointment and in wishing her all the best in her new role.

We also wish Ms. Charley-Greene, current Principal of Takoma Park Middle School all the best in her new position as the Prinicpal of Northwood HS. We will miss her.

This was announced ages ago. Nothing new here.

Nothing else OP stated is supported by facts.
