What scares me most about McCain is his temperment. The week when the credit markets froze and McCain staged his suspension was IMO more than just a bad tactical move. While I am not a fan of the bailout as a whole this was a crisis and McCain injected himself only to show that he has no ability to control the divisions in his own party. The week delay didn't yield much more than a lot of district focused concessions to mainly Republicans (there were some democrats), you could even call it pork. The delay did drop confidence that congress would and could act quickly and IMO had a profound impact on the confidence of the markets at that time and every dollar counts. McCain doesn't seem capable of leading even his party and building coalitions. His rhetoric is so divisive and he is so all over the map. I just can't imagine him acting otherwise once he is elected. Yes, campaigns are stressful but I think being president would be worse.
In ordinary times, he would have time to make mistakes and be a bit more unexpected but this seems like a disaster in our current situation. I will say that Obama is prudent, seems very intelligent, and hasn't marched down the traditional liberal paths. He certainly doesn't sound like Kerry to me and I trust that he will consider more opinions and try to maintain the center. While I am not pro life, I do respect the position and it isn't Palin's views that scare me the most. If she were to become president it would be a national security nightmare. Her rhetoric is also so negative and do divisive. I just don't see how this ticket could accomplish anything other than to incite more infighting. For at least the next four years the safest thing seems to be to go with Obama. I think an Obama win will also create some more confidence in the global markets. |
Go through the exercise of fully articulate each candidate's vision and plan for the next four years. Be as specific as possible. Decide which version of America you'd rather live in.
