| If you give up your job at home, can you post your job on here, cause I would LOVE to work from home. |
+1 |
| Also there is the lack of security at a new job. You don't know if they'll fire people, lay off people etc |
Oh, grow up. Seriously, you're happy with your compensation, you get to spend time with your kids, and you're going to toss it all away for what? So you can learn a new filing system? People are never happy. |

Nobody has asked the question that I think matters most. What's your HHI / how much are putting away for retirement? Choosing to WAH making $50k a year with a DH who makes $400K is one thing ...choosing to give up the possibility of advancement when your combined HHI is $80K is another.
|
| hell no |
To the original poster - I am currently in the same boat - would like to know what you ended up deciding...

No way, I wouldn't consider giving up the at-home thing unless I was really, really sure about the advancement possibilities at the new place.
Too often that is something I've seen hiring orgs brag about, but once you take the job, you might find out that the advancement opportunities aren't as plentiful as you'd been led to believe. Also, what would the commute be like? Chances are, a slight pay raise is going to be cancelled out by commuting costs. Not to mention YOUR TIME. |
Grow up bc she wants to feel like she's progressing in her career? You sound lovely. |
|
I wouldn't make that trade off. Could you push the new employer for more telework days?
I have no interest in working for companies that could offer telework (i.e., the work can be done remotely), but don't. |
| I'm constantly in this position, except my salary would double too if I took the other job. No way. Time with kids is too precious, and there will be time to ramp up later if I want. |
|
I would see if you can negotiate work from home three days a week in the new job. If not, I'd stay out.
I'd probably still stay out, though since sounds like you have a pretty sweet deal. |
|
I would wait until something more worth your while. To give up a comfortable, work from home position, I would expect to gain 20% pay increase. Anything less would be a non-starter for me.
|
| I'm at $200k wfh now. I'd leave for $250. So far I've found jobs at $230 or so, so I've stayed put... But a zero raise??? Hell no! |
Agreed. I switched from WFH for WOH (with one WFH day) for a 200% pay increase. That was worthwhile. Now that my kids are older, I'm negotiating for a position with flexibility although no full WFH day. I've already negotiated a 40% increase from current salary... aiming for 50%. OP, do NOT undervalue your WFH situation. |
