I'm glad I bought in the VA prepaid

My kids are not even in ES yet and I'm wagering that online schooling will become the thing of the future, making these colleges reduce tuition to stay competitive. But only time will tell.

I'm a Virginian and have been for decades. Son is going instate to George Mason next year. Only $9K for tuition but I still wish I had purchased the VA prepaid. Just never got around to doing it.

FCPS students can usually get in to a higher-ranked college out-of-state due to sheer numbers of qualified students competing from our area. UVA/William&Mary = competitive for Ivy's, JMU/VT = competitive other elites. Even on the other end, NOVA CC = competitive for admission to most other state U's. There may be financial reasons to send your FCPS student to a Va college, and some choices may be the very best fit. Too often, however, the FCPS student w/multiple APs but middle-of-the-pack GPA ends up at a less-than-stellar instate school below their ability. They are resentful, as they should be. Spend the money for a better school if you need to.
