We were often late when we had 3 kids under 6 yo. Once we got one of them over that threshold, our timeliness improved. Now that the youngest is 7, we're late for school maybe once every 2 months because of DC traffic.

We ride our bikes. 15 min door to door for DC and another 8 min for me afterwards.

Once the kids were past K we were late maybe once or twice a year. We had a 25-30 minute drive in the AM. While the PM drive could be highly variable, the AM drive was actually very reliable. Part was because it was relatively early since school started at 8:15. We were also going from MD to DC so no bridges and no 270/495 - that meant we typically had a few options if one way was backed up.
