Tysons gave Santa the boot!

Apparently, the Tyson's Santa made $6,000 per week (that's like $312,000 annualized), when the typical Santa gets paid $17 per hour. This guy is paid more than some stars on Broadway. No wonder the new vendor didn't want to retain him anymore and is now shamed to hire him back.

yes, I read somewhere he made about $30,000 for the season. I can't speak to how great he is because I haven't seen him, but that seems a little over the top to me.

You can't really annualize his salary, since you can only work as a Santa for 5-6 weeks tops. It's very seasonal work. Yes, 30k is a lot. But I read that he works 5 weeks, 7 days a week.

For real! He deserves it. Anyways, they spend no more than 60sec on each kid that shuffles through. You are lucky if you get out of there spending less than $20. They are probably making a bare minimum of $1200/hr.

He is OBVIOUSLY getting paid the market rate b/c he's coming back, isn't he?

Hi everyone! We are the professional photographers (family owned & operated) that have been working with the Santa for the past 6 years at Tysons. We were also let go, along with many other freelancers photographers across the U.S., after Macerich decided to go with I.P.I.

We found out about this far too late to replace our contract, so we are all out of work as well. We called malls for two weeks straight after finding out, trying to get a new contract, but they all book up in May, so we were way too late. My fiance and I had plans to get married next year, but now it looks like that won't be happening.

PLEASE let Macerich know how you feel about all of this.
If you have comments/feedback to us send them to smphotos {*AT*} email {*DOT*} com

Thanks!

So they replaced a family owned small business with a big business? Typical scum.
