How do you protect baby's knees while crawling on hardwood floor?

Babies don't have kneecaps, so crawling is not painful to them. Kneecaps don't develop until baby has been walking fully for a few months. You can use sweat bands or baby bands or whatever is hot on the market right now but they're for your comfort. Your little one doesn't care one bit.

Their knees are fine. Don't worry about it.

If there's a lot of scraping I'd have them wear long pants. That's it. Kids get bruised and it won't end until way into teenage years i they stay as active as would be good for them so don't worry. As long as THEY don't seem bothered by it, don't sweat.

We have twins also (16 months now) and our house is all hardwood floors and tile, with area rugs. I never used anything on their knees. I usually had them wear leggings instead of shorts or dresses when they were crawling, to give a little protection. But no kneepads! They'll be fine.

I used those old-fashioned wrist bands for exercising, you know the ones that come along with the headbands. My friend gave me a set as a joke gift once (I hate exercising) before I had kids. I never used them. When my DC started crawling, I found good use for them.

Pants or babylegs, but now that it's hot - nothing. The knees are fine.

We didn't do anything. Our entire house is hardwood or tile. I think baby kneepads are ridiculous.

We put down foam play mats in the living room for DD to crawl around. We got them at costco. It looks like this:

Oh brother. Let them crawl, for Pete's sake. Don't worry about it.

If it bothers them they will find a work-around. My daughter crawls on her knees on carpet, but doesn't like grass or woodchips touching her, so she crawls on her feet with her bum way up in the air when she's outside.

On that note -- I'm a pregnant FTM with a rugless home. My co-worker insists that I must buy area rugs to prevent injuries once kids start walking. "They will crack their heads!" I kind of balked at him. And my cat seems to think throw rugs are a great pee spot, so I'd like to avoid them.

So I'm not crazy to leave my floors uncovered during crawling and the learning-to-walk stage?

No you're not crazy! They'll be fine. Does your coworker want to carpet public sidewalks, as well?
