I don't know, 200 on the waitlist for 2nd at Glenarden Woods doesn't seem encouraging to me.

That sucks. I just glanced at our TAG magnet school and there were less than 45 applicants for the 2nd grade. Not sure how many kids per grade in the TAG program though. Greenbelt Middle School also didn't look terrible.

Glen Arden Woods and Heather Hills now are TAG only schools. I *think* they have 4 TAG classes at each grade.

the other schools I believe have just 1 TAG class per grade. At least Capitol Heights and Highland Park do.

The district added a few more TAG spaces last year when they changed Glenarden Woods and Heather Hills to be all-TAG schools, but they also need to create a tiered system of TAG identification so students who are best served in TAG center schools can have placement there, and those whose needs can be met with TRC (TAG in the regular classroom) can have their services at their base school. The system now makes no sense.

+1 Totally agree. DC had basically no cohort at the local school and missed out in the lottery for the TAG center. A tiered system would make more sense to me as I think that is how they do the HGC placement for MoCo.

Yeah, at a meeting last year the County TAG Coordinator seemed really proud of the fact that with the recent changes, PGCPS now had "every model of TAG services: pull out, TRC, separate class in comprehensive school, and total TAG school."

But they aren't yet making an effort to match the students with the type of program that would be most appropriate.

Has anyone gotten an acceptance letter yet?

One poster said her friend's child got into the immersion program. I am not sure if it was sibling or not. They got letters a couple of weeks ago for programs with sibling preference.

That was me. It wasn't a sibling preference it was a straight lottery win. I think she had to let them know by today if they were taking the spot.

Wow, that is a quick turnaround. I thought placement letters were received just this week. I wonder why they don't do any additional placements until July? I just don't understand this process...

I will admit I may have misunderstood her about the deadline to decide.....there were screaming kids in the background...

Did you know that when you applied for the lottery?

I talked to her this weekend and she did have to accept the spot by Friday but I think they can back out until June or July.

Is the info posted online a wait list or a placement list? It says two different things on the website. One page calls it wait list results but when you click on the link with the rsults, it states that it is the listing of the order in which students will be placed. That is not the same thing as a wait list.

I personally believe it is a placement order list, not a wait list, based on results reported by people i know who got acceptance letters.

So the people you know were placed also had early numbers on the list posted online? That is great then, I will hold out some hope that we may get in because we should have a pretty good wait list number if that is the order of placement!!!

We're number 16 on the list for prek-4 Montessori, but haven't received a letter - is that good or bad? Also #45 for third grade TAG, I figure we more than likely won't get a spot (not sure how many TAG spaces open up between 2nd and 3rd grade), but I'm not sure what to make of the Montessori results. Our mail is also notoriously unreliable (gets misdelivered ALL THE TIME) - I'm a little nervous that mail is the only means of notification.

Which school for TAG? Glenarden Woods went deep into their waitlist last year and then reopened the lottery in the fall for slots in most grades.
