When people say they didn't even know the nnat/cogat was given

She is now in AAP, and the dog is a very happy and good dog. And yes, the dog did eat her homework at least once.

Those damn puppies. They have messed up more kids CogAt performance around here.

Know an aquaintance whose son didn't get into AAP. She said she read the notice and knew the date, but on that morning forget to tell her DC there would be a test.
She kinda blamed herself for not giving him a pep talk, like that would have made a big difference.
Utterly genuine though and typical methinks - lots of people just don't get that worked up about these things.

I like you!

DD is 1st grade this year and we honestly didn't know the exact day of the test. The note sent home gave a week, maybe two, timeframe for when the test would be given. I told DH to try and keep peace in the house before school that week or so since she had the NNAT test coming up. Soooooo.....no we really didn't know exactly when the test would be given. Nor did we kbnow that prep was available for the test until afterwards.

Believe what you want. Ten years ago, when DD1 was starting 3rd grade, I asked where Amy, Sally, Trudy and Beth were? She said they all went to a new school. . . . Yes, I had a lot to learn.

Why do you care? How does it affect you?

There is so much stereotying & generalizing on this website. I hate the way people assume you're either one extreme or the other. Either you're so laid back you don't even realize the kids are taking the tests or you're so obsessed with the testing that your child does nothing but test prep and they turn into robots. In reality, the number of people falling into these groups are probably very very small. 99% of us probably fall somewhere in between. But I do agree with one of the previous poster who say that people on this website are not likely to be the truly laid back. I know people who are really laid back about these types of stuff and they don't even know what DCUM is.

Haha, so true!

Also, smart kids are always characterized as lazy and coasting along and only average kids know how to work hard and study effectively.

You assumed correctly. A test is an assessment.

LMAO!!!!

I didn't call you a liar...I said I think they are liars. (Different than "you are lying." It is my opinion...and I am entitled to it).

Ah, the truth comes out about you're overwhelming sense of entitlement. So typical.

Oh that makes total sense. You're right. We're not entitled to our opinions.

It doesn't affect me, but it makes me think they are liars and I discount whatever else they go on to say.

OP here: That's my point. If you're on the school section of this site, you know when the testing was with RARE exception.

I read the note the school sent home. Asked my child about it. Days later, I asked how it had gone. That was it. And yes, after health, my kids' education is top priority for me.

Does everyone else really receive everything that is sent home on time? Because at our house, notices from school arrive home months late, are found crumpled at the bottom of the book bag, etc. Once found a birthday invite over 6 months later in our car. Somehow, we all seem to survive.

Okay, there's a difference between being reasonably laid back about our kids' education and being a disorganized mess. You seem to be the latter.
