The 1 Million dollar bus stop in arlington, Seriously?

A dog would be happy in abandoned lot. The construction on that Trump Plaza dog park is now approaching 1 year and it does not look anywhere near completion. Insanity.

I am convinced somebody on that Board is embezzling.

If they had to move utilities and storm drains, it would have been twice that cost...

This is an early april fools joke, right?

Ugh, the metal on the benches looks like fun to sit on in June ... it'll be ice-cold in the winter and burning hot in the summer.

I'd want it better protected against the cold too for that price.

The cost ... very pricey unless you have curb/gutter work involved as well.

it still looks like shit and doesn't protect the people waiting for the bus. An example of why the government has no business being in certain sectors.

You're officially disqualified from taking part in this discussion. I'm all for oversight, but the design CLEARLY enables rain to run off the back, you're suggesting it pool at the top?

I'm trying to keep an open mind about the streetcar plan, because I think that South Arlington could use an opportunity to revitalize. But things like this make me concerned about the logic employed by the planners.

People, these are what earmarks are, actually what they used to be.

The bus grant program spends billions every year. Prior to ignorant public outrage, members of Congress would submit their requests to fund local projects. I say ignorant b/c these requests originate in the local communities and generally each entity pays 1/3. Local, state and federal.

Have a look, starting on page 188:

http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/CRPT-109hrpt307/pdf/CRPT-109hrpt307.pdf

Now all of these decisions are made by bureurocrats inside the DOT. So now Congress has no say....

Slight wind would render it useless against the rain

silly OP It will shelter 15 people at a time, an important benefit for the 16,000 people who each day take the Columbia Pike buses
So there it is worth it.

Sadly, it is all TRUE!

As are the voters who approved this in November.

You mean those streetcars that are going to span 4.5 miles for the low, low cost of $250 million? Not to worry, county taxpayers- it's a liberal thing to get the federal government foot a third of the bill

So what are you proposing Arlington County do instead?

Yes. The mass that thinks they are so educated blindly voted for 'parks' not realizing they were voting for an 80 million, unneeded acquatic center. Total dipshits. I couldn't believe how many people I know that made t hat mistake. Pathetic. The Board needs to be run out of Arlington. Total fuckwads that also are trying to bring crime and dysfunction in (homeless shelter--wink wink). Not all Democrats are good,,,,,,time to start voting R locally.
