Fairfax Adding Foreign Language in the Elementary Schools (FLES)?

Anonymous
Why would these other 80 plus schools even be able to say to administration that they didn't want foreign language included in their schools? Either it is something FCPS wants for every student and will implement as money becomes available or it is just an enrichment that shouldn't be funded for any school.

In other words, even in the FLES schools, children are pulled away from math and science instruction in English and taught math and science instruction in the foreign language instead during their FLES time.

My children were at a FLES school until they switched for AAP. They were taught math and science in English and their FLES language instruction was not at all math or science related. It was just treated as another special during the week.

According to FCPS's website on FLES:
The foreign language instruction is linked to all content area subjects taught in the regular classroom (i.e., math, science, social studies, health).

Which school(s) will have both immersion and FLES?

LOL, remember how long it took to institute full day kindergarten to all schools.

Several years ago, our school wanted it, but was denied. So, the school pursued a grant, received it and now has a Chinese program that is not FLES but is similar.

THey wouldn't happen simultaneously. The FLES is for the non immersion students.

16:32 here again.

This is correct. The immersion students will not participate in FLES.
It starts next year and will be implemented in stages (it won't begin with all grades year one).

Bailey's will be adding Spanish FLES for students who aren't in the Spanish Immersion program.
