How much is your electric bill?

Anonymous
Just checked on myenergy.com and it told me that my last electric bill was $55 and the average electric bill in the area was $88.

Average monthly electric for the year is $89 (local average is $129).

Average gas bill for the year is $56 (local average is $61). Our last gas bill was $108.

We have gas heat and hot water, buy efficient appliances, and try to be good about turning off lights--but aren't totally scrupulous. I have no idea how they are defining "local area"

I know this is a bumping of the thread, but my apartment complex switched to individual electric bills late last year, and mine has gone up and up. There are times I don't run the heat during the work day and then turn it on when I get home.

Do apartments tend to cost more for electric bills?

$125-150, 800 sq foot condo but it's dark so lights are on all the time. I SAH and we do a load of dishes and laundry every day. Thermostat is at 72 all year, 68 at night

PP here (12:42) Ok, so somehow this is a going rate and other than never being home and not turning on the heat, you are pretty much screwed. Laundry isn't the issue because I can get that done in one day usually.

1 bedroom apt: between $20 and $50

I don't run my air or heat all the time; I'd rather open my windows in spring/summer

I suggest you have an electrician check out how your dryer is vented. I'm guessing it's not vented properly.

Do you run a dehumidifier? If we don't run our air in summer everything warps

2500 SFH home, my last Dominion bill was $343. We don't have gas so we hear all electric. We also don't have a heat pump. Our heat is individually controlled in each room. Could this be making the bill higher?

Damn.....that's impressive the way this weather is.

OP, your heating must be gas. My bills are about $30 in the winter because our heating is gas radiators.
