16:20, thank you for the excellent tips. I got on the waiting list of Children's national. Not sure i got it through the CASD department (does it make any difference wether CASD handled my call?) I just called the general number and mentioned AS. The operator transferred me to someone and put me on the wait list. The projected waiting time is about 14 months right now. You were lucky t o be able to get in within six months.
I thought KKI would have a shorter wait list. Guess I am wrong. I am still waiting for KKI to re turn my call. Dr Shairo's office emailed me back. He does not see patients in VA and he is not accepting new patients right now. Can't believe it s so difficult to make an appointment with a development specialist. |

Actually, unless your child is very verbal, I think 3.11 is quite young for an accurate Asperger's diagnosis. Also, MOST people have some ASD traits, so what the psych told you isn't all that helpful. What I would do while you wait for a thorough evaluation is to address individual needs. What concerns you about your child? Is it speech? If so, then check out the Hanen books or Dr. John MacDonald's Communicating Partners site. |
| You can also be put on a separate list at Childrens and KKI to be called if there are any last minute appointments/cancellations. I agree, it is SO ridiculous the shortage of developmental pediatricians. |
| I called CASD at Children's today. They indeed have a separate waiting list. I was told the projected waiting time is about 5 months. When I called the general line two days ago, I was put on a wait list with 14 months projection. Thanks to the person who mentioned CASD to me. |
