Everyone loves cheerleaders!

Laughably off-base. You're high if you think any of this is an attack on the kids. No more than critics are "slut-shaming" some toddler whose mother dresses her up in lingerie and make-up for one of those child pageants.

There's a difference between slut-shaming a teen for expressing their sexuality, and calling out a parent for sexualizing their elementary school child.

Is being a cheerleader a feminine ideal still?

If school is not fun for you, it is understandable. I said everyone loves cheerleaders and not everyone loves a cheerleader, there's a difference.

Well, for the posters who are nay sayers there was a capacity crowd in attendance who enjoyed it immensely. More importantly, the elementary parental participation is phenomenal.

Surely, you have not had your coffee, if you are calling for Deal to rid themselves of cheerleading. They were phenomenal and could have beaten the high-school teams.

The cheerleading of your yester-years of sis-boom-bah has gone bye-bye. Get with it or be gone!!!

By the way, the tight cheerleading outfits are necessary because the loose fitting sweaters and pleated-skirts were causing more injuries over the years.

You aren't very bright....hope your kid is much smarter.

In, um, some circles.

Cheerleading just seems so low class, these days.

Looks like not everyone loves cheerleaders.

MY DD is attracted to the synchronization, the music, the camaradery she sees on her elementary school squad.
And we've already been exposed to the idea that cheerleaders are at the top of the pecking order (She's cheer captain and I'm on the bleachers...) It's a great activity if your DD is good at gymnastics, acrobatics, dance, and her goal is to grow up to get a decent job in accounts payable and marry rich, or go into cheer coaching. But Mommy disapproves. I'm holding out for doctor, paleontologist, engineer, entrepreneur...

I'm not a fan of cheerleading either, but a few presidents were once cheerleaders, as was Ruth Bader Ginsburg. There's hope, Mom.

Many division 1 schools give scholarships for cheerleading. It is a competitive ncaa sanctioned sport. That booth men and women compete in and get scholarships. They also can win the title.

Yep, but that's a far different thing from elementary school cheerleading. Sorry, but sexualizing my 7 year old is not something I'm going to engage in.

The op talks about middle and high schoolers not 7year olds.

OP said "Here are some results". Several others responded that they thought ES cheerleading was inappropriate. I agreed.

I was bright enough for you to respond. Isn't that what cheerleaders do, call and response!!! May I ask, were you tormented by cheerleaders? I am just as bright as George W. Bush, who also was a cheerleader.

Awesome lessons to learn in pre-K.

She learned that from home and not at school.
