In line with the new pope breaking lots of norms and traditions

One could say this is institutional, but how about the man's age and culture? I think Hispanic women and me and my girl cousins - growing up in an Italian family that did not want to send girls to college - see this differently. Take that view and then join an all male organization and it only reinforces the bias against women. Sigh.

Whole thing means nothing to me, but why is he so old? He's retirement age already.

If, say, one of the two priests that Pope Francis ratted out to the Junta during Argentina's Dirty War were elected Pope, then we might see a lot more respect towards the institution.

Seems it's always the folks on the wrong side of history and morality that are rewarded in the end.
