Papaya was one of the few things I could eat that would settle my stomach. Ate a ton with my four pregnancies.
|
In my case, from my endocrinologist. She said that I should always eat carbs with protein to even out the blood sugar spike. |
heard this from my diabetic educator too. |
I found this maybe what OP is referring to:
Many cultures firmly believe that eating papayas during pregnancy is a strict no, no. Papaya intake apparently brings on labour early. This is partially true. Unripe and semi-ripe papayas only are rich in latex which is known to trigger uterine contractions. There are also heating in nature and are better avoided during the third and final trimester Pineapples are rich in bromelain which can cause the softening of the cervix leading to early labour. However, for that to happen, a pregnant woman has to drink pineapple juice in excessive quantities that will first lead to diarrhoea. |
12:49 here - I think this is probably what my mom was talking about in regards to Papaya! |
I have eaten a ton of both throughout. Am now 31 weeks. I do notice that he gets super worked up in there after I eat those two fruits -- I guess that is the sugar. |
I think the no pineapple and no papaya is an old wive's tale. |
I lived abroad (Asia) and my pregnant colleague (expat from Sweden) would eat big bowls of fresh fruit- often lots of pineapple with lunch as did most of us. The older aunties used to tsk-tsk her and say she can't eat such "heat-y" foods or she will lose the baby..........clearly he was fine when born. |
and they tell you to eat pineapple (core) to help get pregnant. |
I think pineapple may be something that comes up in IVF, but I thought it had to do with its supposed anti-coagulation properties. |
I have eaten pineapple during all three of my pregnancies. I have had gestational diabetes with my last two pregnancies so I have to limit the amount and balance it with some nuts, but my neither my doctor nor my diabetes consultant has ever mentioned anything negative about pineapple. |
Bull. Eat it if you want to. Papaya stinks like vomit, but if that's what you crave, go for it. |
